Xeomin works similar to Botox® and uses the same neurotoxin. The formulas are slightly different, which can benefit some individuals that do not get the desired effect from Botox injections. Xeomin helps block nerve signals to the targeted muscles to stop contraction and movement and is used to smooth lines that appear between the eyebrows (11s or glabellar lines) or horizontal forehead lines. The biggest difference between Botox and Xeomin is the molecular weight and Xeomin does not contain some of the proteins that are in Botox.
The use of Xeomin can help create a more pleasant and youthful facial appearance, especially on the brow. Treatment can be performed in about 15 minutes, and most patients have few if any side effects. Slight swelling, tenderness or redness at the injection areas are the most common issues, but these go away quickly. We recommend patients apply a gentle cool compress to reduce these side effects – just avoid rubbing the area for 2-3 days after the injections.
